Pat Spangler
LPCP, CADC, MAATP
Pat Spangler joined the Four Corners in August 2024. Prior to that, he worked at Rosecrance for more than 20 years where he worked with adolescents and adults in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings. He helped to initiate programs to address the specific needs of young adults, clients suffering from opiate addiction, as well as individuals representing the aviation and fire protection services. Pat has also been a regional and national presenter on the topics of treating opiate addiction and working with the young adult population. Pat has completed several interviews offering insight from his longstanding, professional experience of working in the addictions field which has been included in the news, television, and radio.
Pat received his M.S. Ed at Northern Illinois University and is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois. He also is a Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor (CADC), as well as a Medication, Assisted Addiction Treatment Professional (MAATP).
Pat enjoys working with young adults, adults, and older adults and has extensive experience working with clients in individual, family, and group counseling settings. Since leaving the substance abuse treatment setting, Pat began working at kp counseling to return to working directly with those in need and to return to his “roots” of counseling. During his 9 years at kp counseling, Pat began working more frequently with the first responder population. Pat has been working with active employees and retired members of local fire and law enforcement departments in addition to emergency room staff, dispatchers and former military personal from all branches of the armed forces. Pat also works with the family members of first responder community to help bridge the gaps in communication that are often common in these relationships compounded with a natural tendency to not share information with loved ones.
Pat has been successful at helping first responders navigate the stresses of and difficulties related to difficult experiences on the job, especially the calls that one may “carry.” Pat works to help individuals and teams work to manage these stresses both on and off the job; especially the challenge that can come with transitioning back to home life. Pat has been helpful in guiding individuals to face the difficulties of such calls or experiences in both their “professional mind” as well as their “civilian mind.”
Pat has been certified in CISM and has led several debriefing/defusing sessions with local departments. When asked about a positive outcome that Pat remembers, he shared that one of the greatest compliments he was given by first responders was they felt like, “Pat gets it.” In his spare time, Pat enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
